Bollard Installation Guide: 5 Key Points Before Construction

1. Foundation: The Bedrock

Concrete grade C25 minimum. Foundation pit dimensions based on column diameter and embedment depth. Ensure level pit bottom — add crushed stone bedding if needed. Cure for at least 7 days before installation. Waterproof foundation perimeter in high groundwater areas.Detect underground utilities before excavating to avoid buried cables and gas lines; pits deeper than 1m require sloped or supported walls per code to protect workers.

2. Drainage: Water Is Enemy #1

Reserve drainage outlet at cylinder bottom, connect via PVC pipe to drainage well with 1% minimum slope. Install infiltration well if no municipal drainage. Always perform water-filling test before backfilling.Besides cylinder drainage, add a drain hole with rodent screen at the control cabinet base to prevent flooding and cable gnawing; seal cable pits against seepage along walls.

3. Electrical: Safety Is Non-Negotiable

Use waterproof-rated cable (YJV or YJV22 armored), inside galvanized steel conduit, buried 500mm+ deep. Install leakage protection breaker (30mA or less) and independent breaker per circuit. Use three-phase distribution for 10+ bollard projects.Seal all connections with waterproof junction boxes or heat-shrink tubing and label them for future service; reserve 20% spare circuits in the panel for future expansion.

4. Spacing: Blocking vs. Passage

Standard column center spacing: 1.2-1.5m, clear gap 1.0-1.3m — blocks sedans and SUVs while allowing pedestrian flow. Fire lanes need 4m+ width with synchronized multi-bollard design for emergency lowering. When pairing with vehicle barriers, keep bollards 1-2m away so a dropped barrier cannot hit vehicles; on ramps, install bollards on the level section past the slope crest.

5. System Integration

Place control cabinet near security booth. Integrate with license plate recognition via dry contact/RS485, fire alarms for auto-lower, and CCTV for event-triggered camera feeds. Ethernet or 4G module required for cloud platform remote management.Acceptance includes full-load cycle testing: 50 consecutive lifts without fault and alignment deviation under 2mm before sign-off.
