A security bollard is a short, sturdy vertical post — typically made of 304 stainless steel or steel filled with concrete — that is installed to control or block vehicle access while allowing pedestrians to pass. The word "bollard" originally described the posts used to moor ships; today, security bollards are one of the most widely deployed physical barriers in the world, protecting storefronts, government buildings, airports, schools, and public plazas from accidental or deliberate vehicle impact.
