Pre-Installation Planning
A successful bollard installation begins with thorough planning. Before breaking ground, conduct a site survey to identify underground utilities (gas lines, water pipes, electrical conduits, fiber optics). Missing this step can lead to costly repairs and dangerous accidents.
Foundation Requirements
Hydraulic bollards require a concrete foundation trench typically 800-1200mm deep, depending on column height and soil conditions. The trench must include proper drainage — standing water is the #1 cause of premature bollard failure. We recommend a gravel base layer of 200mm minimum, PVC drainage pipes leading to the nearest storm drain, and waterproof sealing around the bollard housing.
Power Supply Setup
Automatic bollards need a dedicated electrical circuit. Standard requirements: 220V AC (or 380V for heavy-duty models), properly grounded, with a waterproof junction box within 5 meters of the installation point. Consider installing a backup battery system for emergency lowering during power outages.
Installation Step-by-Step
- Excavation: Dig the foundation trench to specified dimensions, ensuring level bottom surface.
- Drainage Layer: Lay 200mm gravel base, compact thoroughly.
- Conduit Installation: Run power cables through protective PVC conduits to each bollard position.
- Concrete Pour: Use C30 grade concrete or higher. Allow minimum 7 days curing before installing the bollard unit.
- Bollard Placement: Lower the unit into position, connect power and control cables, secure with anchor bolts.
- Testing: Run at least 50 complete lift/lower cycles to verify smooth operation and check for leaks or abnormal noise.
- Finishing: Apply waterproof sealant around the base flange, install drainage grates, restore surrounding surface.
Common Installation Mistakes
Inadequate drainage: The most frequent issue. Without proper drainage, water accumulates in the foundation pit, corroding the outer barrel and damaging the hydraulic system.
Insufficient curing time: Rushing to install bollards before concrete fully cures leads to misalignment and uneven load distribution.
Improper grounding: Skipping proper electrical grounding creates safety hazards and can damage control electronics.
Acceptance Checklist
Before signing off on installation, verify: all bollards raise and lower within specified time (1.5-3.5s), emergency manual override functions correctly, LED warning lights operate properly, remote control range meets specifications (≥30m), and there is no standing water in the foundation area after heavy rain simulation.
